Here We Go Again... Again

By Ray Miller @yourmetray February 25, 2015 8:15 am CST

What seems like an endless streak of brutal winter storms continues through the middle portion of the week as a low pressure system slides out of the Four Corners region and into the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states through Wednesday.

Winter storm watches and warnings are already in effect from northeast Texas through eastern North Carolina, and widespread snowfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are likely across this region.  While this pales in comparison to the massive snowstorms that have blasted New England recently, that's still a very significant amount of snow for that part of the country.  Additionally, freezing rain and sleet will be possible across southern Tennessee and northern portions of Alabama and Georgia.  Further south into central Georgia and South Carolina, heavy rainfall looks very likely, as indicated by this loop of model precipitation data:

Additionally, on the back side of this system, another area of low pressure will dive southeast across the Dakotas into central Iowa, where several inches of snow will also be possible.  Further north, the weather pattern remains quiet, but brutally cold temperatures continue as another batch of Arctic air surges into the Upper Midwest. So February will end much as it began: with a significant storm affecting parts of the country and brutal cold elsewhere.
