US Weather Spotlight: 8-23-19

Active weather through the weekend will mainly be in up and down the Plains, and eastward across the South with the Ohio River Valley and parts of the Mid Atlantic activity as well today. Widespread heavy rain is expected at times with this activity with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible with locally heavier amounts possible as well especially in the central Plains and Carolinas. Some of the storms may be severe at times, but the threat is quite low with the better chances coming in the High Plains, southeast VA, and northeast NC this afternoon and night. Confidence decreases into the weekend though still a possibility across the Dakotas and central Plains.

Elsewhere dry conditions prevail over the western third of the country, Great Lakes and Northeast. Highs may only reach the 60s in parts of the UP of MI and northeast WI today, and parts of northern New England through the weekend.
