Weekend Weather Spotlight: 6-17-22

An area of showers and storms will move through the Mid-Mississippi River Valley early today, the Ohio River Valley this afternoon, and the Mid-Atlantic during the evening. Some of this activity could produce some severe weather at times with the best chances coming this evening in the Carolinas, eastern TN, southern VA, and northern GA. Scattered showers and storms are also possible today in New England as a low-pressure system moves through eastern Canada, and an isolated severe storm is possible.

On Saturday a strong disturbance is expected to move over FL and will bring showers and storms to this region mainly from Saturday afternoon through early Sunday, and a few of these storms also could become severe.

Finally, further west and upper ridge amplifies over the central part of the country and will bring heat to this region with widespread 90s and 100s expected from TX to the Canadian border. Scattered showers and storms are expected on the western part of this feature, however severe storms risk will be relatively low with better chances more than likely staying in Canada.
